Do I need a Twilio phone number to send and receive messages?

Yes,  you need to set up a dedicated Twilio phone number in order to send and receive messages.

Can I send SMS messages with a Twilio trial account?

You can only send messages to your verified numbers when your Twilio account is still in trial.  To find your verified numbers log into your Twilio account and click the Numbers tab.  Then, click the Verified Numbers tab.  You’ll see a list of phone numbers that you can send SMS messages to.  Once you upgrade your account and purchase a phone number you can begin sending SMS messages to anyone.

How many phone numbers can I send from?

Simple SMS currently allows for 1 phone number to be used.  It’s on our roadmap to add functionality for being able to send from multiple phone numbers.

If I have a US phone number, can I send and receive globally?

Yes, with a US phone number you can send messages internationally, as well as receive messages from international numbers..  The per messaging price for each country can be found at www.twilio.com/sms/pricing.

If I have a US number and want to send/receive globally, is there a special format that my phone numbers need to follow?

Yes, this only applies to customers who have a US phone number and want to send/receive to international phone numbers.  The number needs to be formatted with as + CountryCode PhoneNumber with no spaces.  For example, to send to the following UK number 20 5555 5555 you need to have the phone number formatted as +442055555555 in Salesforce.

Can I use Simple SMS if I’m not in the US?

Yes, select countries support the sending/receiving of messages with a local number.  If you are in one of the following countries you can purchase a local phone number that allows you to send and receive messages from other local numbers.  You are not able to send messages to numbers outside of the country, nor can you receive messages from numbers outside of the country.

I’m seeing a message that says”SMS Messaging is disabled for your organization. Your message will not be sent.”  What do I need to do?

Go to the Simple SMS Configuration tab and ensure that the SMS Sending Enabled box is checked.
